Moves to Boost your Metabolism

If you want to lose weight, boosting your metabolism is vital. Your metabolism is measured by your metabolic rate, or the rate at which your body uses energy.

Weight Training

Lift weights. Because muscle uses more calories than fat, strengthening your muscles will make you into a more efficient calorie-burning machine, even when you're at rest. 3-4 times a week, do 2-3 sets of 10-12 repetitions on each major muscle group (abs, biceps, glutes, quads).

Strength training helps to increase your resting metabolic rate (RMR) by increasing the amount of lean muscle on your body. Your RMR is the number of calories your body requires to perform basic functions, such as breathing, circulation, and digestion.

Cardiovascular Training

Exercises like running, jumping and aerobics, (anything that gets the heart pumping), can help boost your metabolism, as well as burn calories.

One thing is true for both aerobic and HIIT training: the higher your stamina and maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max), the more your body will break down its fat stores into energy. Both methods with will contribute to making your metabolism run more smoothly. Still, HIIT exercises are up to three times faster than aerobic endurance training at boosting VO2max

Benefits of having a faster Metabolism

Gives You More Energy

When your body starts to digest something, it spends some energy stored in your body. If your body has good metabolism, it means your body will spend less energy on digesting food.

On the other hand, if your body does not have a good metabolism rate, it will spend a lot of energy digesting the food, and as the metabolism is not good, it will also take a long time to return the spent energy.

Reduces The Risk of Heart Disease

Having a good metabolism means that most of the food in your stomach will be digested, and the ones that are not digestible will come out of your body through feces.

So, there will be less fat and sugar in your blood. Those two are the biggest enemies of the heart. With a fast metabolism, you do not need to worry about this and, in return, reduce the risk of any heart-related disease.

Removes The Toxins From Your Body

Having a good metabolism means your body will swiftly digest food. This will help regulate your bowel movement, helping remove toxins that have been stored in your body.

This effect can further be enhanced if you consume foods that have diuretic nature.

Toxins can cause many problems in your inner organs, and removing them will help your organs become healthier and more active.

Increase the Immunity of Your Body

Blood is the prime source of your body’s immune system. It contains white blood cells that help protect your body from all sorts of viral or bacterial infections.

A good metabolism helps improve your blood circulation. This means all parts of your body will have a sufficient amount of white blood cells, and whenever there is an infection, blood can swiftly flow there, and the white blood cells in those blood can attack whatever caused the infection, thus improving your body’s immune system.

6 Signs you need a Retreat

I developed DBC Health Retreats 13 years ago, and it changed my life! It opened me up to new ways of living, starting from a place of wellness & empowerment.

I love retreats, mainly for the self-development aspect – you get to spend focused time on you. Helping my guests regain balance and get on track. Find out what’s working, what’s not. A retreat is the perfect environment for that.

On retreat, you experience little shifts & a whole lot of relaxation. When you’re relaxed, that’s when inspiration can most easily get through to you. You know – that lovely feeling of connection, knowing and gentle pulling towards something that will improve your overall wellbeing.

There are a  variety of retreats to choose from, depending on your needs!

Is Stress Impacting Your Mental Health?

Do you feel stress is negatively impacting your physical and mental wellbeing?

Many situations can cause a stress response in the body. Changes at work, illness, accidents, problems with relationships, family, money or housing can all cause stress. Even seemingly small daily hassles like someone pushing in a queue can make us feel stressed. What links all these situations is that we’re unable to predict and control what is happening to us, and so our body goes into a state of increased alertness. And these events can happen all the time - triggering the body’s stress response over and over again.

When the stress response becomes prolonged (chronic), it has a very different effect to the short bursts that enhance the body’s abilities. In many cases, the system controlling the stress response is no longer able to return to its normal state. Attention, memory, and the way we deal with emotions are negatively impacted. This long-term stress can contribute to both physical and mental illness through effects on the heart, immune and metabolic functions, and hormones acting on the brain.

Some of the emotional and behavioural symptoms of stress overlap with those of mental health conditions like anxiety or depression. This can make it hard to distinguish where one begins and the other ends, or which came first. Someone who is stressed may feel worried, down, unable to concentrate or make decisions, irritable and angry.

DBC Health Retreats release tension and recharge with a healthy plant based diet, fresh juices, hiking, pilates and plenty of rest.

More details

Good Mental Health

When we are mentally healthy, we enjoy our life and environment, and the people in it. We can be creative, learn, try new things, and take risks. We are better able to cope with difficult times in our personal and professional lives.

Poor mental health makes us more vulnerable to certain physical health problems, such as heart disease, stroke and type 2 diabetes. Nurturing our mental health can also help prevent the development of mental illnesses. Good mental health helps us have a more positive outlook and enjoy our lives more.

When you do physical activity your brain releases endorphins which help to lift your mood and also give you energy. Regular exercise can also help you to sleep better and feel more at one with yourself.

Burnout is a state of emotional, physical, and mental exhaustion caused by excessive and prolonged stress.
