Nutrition and Mental Health

Food effects the body and mind.

A healthy, well-balanced diet can help us think clearly and feel more alert
. It can also improve concentration and attention span.

Conversely, an inadequate diet can lead to fatigue, impaired decision-making, and can slow down reaction time

Mental Health & Nutrition

Mental Health & Nutrition

Food effects the Body & Mind.

Sugar laden, processed and high fat foods, we often crave when we are stressed or depressed, as comforting as they may seem, are the least likely to benefit our mental or physical health.

Wholefoods, such as vegetables, fruit, fish, eggs,seafood, dark chocolate nuts, seeds and beans. These foods help to promote compounds like brain-derived neurotrophic factor, or BDNF, a protein that stimulates the growth of new neurons and helps protect existing ones. They also contain large amounts of fiber, unsaturated fat, antioxidants, omega-3 fatty acids and other nutrients that have been shown to improve gut and metabolic health and reduce inflammation, all of which can affect the brain.

Mental Health is Complex

There’s a lot you can do to lift your mood and improve your mental health, and it can be as simple as increasing your intake of plants and healthy foods. People need to adopt lifestyle behaviors like exercise, sound sleep, a heart-healthy diet and avoiding smoking that may reduce inflammation and have benefits for the brain.

1. The Natural Beauty

There are so many great things about Lanzarote , but the first thing we had to mention was its true beauty. The island is really unlike any other with its volcano-clad landscapes and palm tree-fringed beaches that the 4th largest of the Canary Islands and pristine beaches of Papaguyo

It makes for the perfect backdrop for anyone searching for a sense of serenity and tranquility. Not to mention, there will be moments where you say “wow” while viewing its natural greatness.

It’s really something to be a part of and experience first hand, there’s a sense of relaxation and harmony you feel just being surrounded. Which, at the end of the day makes it an ideal setting for a wellness retreat.

2. The climate in Lanzarote is ideal. Well, let’s even say close to perfect with it’s 20 degrees on average all year round. It’s never too hot and never too cold. In Lanzarote. Well it’s actually one of the warmest place in Europe. You are perhaps wondering, if it’s warm enough to swim in the sea. The answer is a clear: YES!

3. César Manrique.

If a character is attached to Lanzarote, it’s him. He shaped the island, he preserved the island and made this island what it is today. A trip to Lanzarote without discovering his work is actually impossible. Most of the main sites have been designed by César Manrique in Lanzarote.

A somewhat visionary artist who took advantage of his installation on the island to let all his creativity express itself. Always concerned with respecting nature, Manrique built amazing houses but also created spaces that are very popular today, such as the #cactusgarden #jameosdelagua , the #miradordelrio and much more.

Action for Mental Health at Work

Government, employers, the organizations which represent workers and employers, and other stakeholders responsible for workers’ health and safety can help to improve mental health at work through action to:

  • prevent work-related mental health conditions by preventing the risks to mental health at work;

  • protect and promote mental health at work;

  • support workers with mental health conditions to participate and thrive in work; and

  • create an enabling environment for change.

Action to address mental health at work should be done with the meaningful involvement of workers and their representatives, and persons with lived experience of mental health conditions.

How does fitness improve mental health?

Exercise improves mental health by reducing anxiety, depression, and negative mood and by improving self-esteem and cognitive function. Exercise has also been found to alleviate symptoms such as low self-esteem and social withdrawal.

When you have depression or anxiety, exercise often seems like the last thing you want to do. But once you get motivated, exercise can make a big difference.

Exercise helps prevent and improve a number of health problems, including high blood pressure, diabetes and arthritis. Research on depression, anxiety and exercise shows that the psychological and physical benefits of exercise can also help improve mood and reduce anxiety.
